Cuby is a private, family-operated communication device. It has no public website sign-up and no way for a stranger to be added. Every recipient is a relative or close personal friend whom the device owner adds by hand, and only after that person gives explicit verbal consent. This page documents exactly how that consent is collected.
Before any phone number is added to the device, the parent who owns the device personally asks the prospective contact — in person or by phone — whether they consent to exchange calls and text/voice messages with the family's Cuby device. The number is added only after the person says "yes." No number is ever added without this verbal opt-in.
During that conversation, the owner states all of the following:
"I'm setting up Cuby, our family's messaging device for my kids. I'd like to add your number so you and [child] can exchange calls, texts, and voice messages. These are personal messages between you and our family — not marketing. Message frequency is conversational, usually just a few messages a week. Message and data rates may apply. You can reply HELP any time for help, or STOP any time to opt out. Our Terms (https://cuby.mattcarroll.xyz/terms) and Privacy Policy (https://cuby.mattcarroll.xyz/privacy) have the details. Do you agree to receive calls and text messages from our Cuby device?"
On "yes," the contact is enrolled and immediately receives a one-time written confirmation text from the Cuby number repeating the program name, "Msg & data rates may apply," and the HELP/STOP instructions. The owner keeps a written record of each consent (name, number, date, method). Contacts can reply STOP to opt out at any time, or START to opt back in.
